The Construction Products Association represents 85% by value of all manufacturers and suppliers of construction products in the UK, including the largest companies in the industry, as well as the 44 trade associations. Collectively, the industry provides 20% of goods manufactured in this country. The industry has an annual output of £50 billion. It accounts for 40% of total construction output and employs about 500,000 people. It is responsible for 20% of the UK's manufacturing output and provides 4% of the UK's Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
The Association acts as a single voice to promote and campaign for the construction product manufacturers and suppliers, in order to support this major industry. On 1st September 2009, the Environmental Knowledge Transfer Network and Resource Efficiency Knowledge Transfer Network merged to form the new Environmental Sustainability Knowledge Transfer Network. The Environmental Sustainability KTN is now the primary KTN supporting the Technology Strategy Board’s Environmental Sustainability Key Application Area. Over the next three years the Environmental Sustainability Knowledge Transfer Network will be focusing most of its effort on four main environmental sector subdivisions: Water; Land and Food; Resources and Waste; and Energy. Within those, Key Priority Areas have been identified that offer the greatest potential for British businesses to develop innovative and environmentally sustainable products and services.
